May Newsletter
Hello to you all.
I hope you love this months header photo – the photo was taken at Nymans Gardens on Monday and the wisteria was looking absolutely glorious so I thought I would share it with you.
Lots to tell you, so pause a moment and get yourself comfy with a cuppa and a biscuit before you proceed!
Now the weather is warming up (hooray) the summer fabrics are getting a lot of focus and there are a couple that we are re-ordering due to their popularity. The patterns from Sussex seamstress and Sew Different have been restocked so we have a wide variety of styles to assist you with your summer wardrobe. Don’t forget, we also have some men’s/unisex patterns too.

Do you love your overlocker ?
I have been loving my one at the moment. During April I managed to make two t-shirts and a simple jumper . The jumper was to replace a very loved fleece one that I have had for 25 years and really has very little warmth left in it. When I say replace, I should probably say to ‘sit alongside’ as I doubt the original one will be relegated to the bin just yet!! As it was such a simple design I drew around it and then created my pattern – this is something we will cover in a workshop later in the year. The flowery t-shirt was using the Angie pattern from Bobbins and Buttons – this is the one we use in our learn to love your overlocker class (P.S -the next one is Thursday 24th July if you want to learn to love your one).

Offers….
We still have our buy one , get one half price on the remnants table along with some fabrics that have been reduced. Come along and grab yourself a bargain . There are a few quilting fabrics in there too and some discontinued ribbons that have been heavily reduced.
Knit and Stitch show in October
Hold your horses!!! Don’t go getting excited thinking I am about to tell you I have tickets. I have had people enquiring since January about whether I am going to run another trip to the show in October (It has been renamed Knit and Stitch, just the same but with a new name ). I have the coaches booked for Sunday 12th October but cannot give you more details/price until the show tickets are released . Once I know the cost, I will let you all know via the newsletter. This is likely to be June/July .
Embroidery workshop…
On Wednesday 7th May we have Magda holding another of her full day embroidery classes. This time it is a beautiful spring basket that she will be stitching. The class is suitable for both complete beginners and those with some experience. It achievable for all levels and introduces some beautiful embroidery skills that you will then use at home to complete the project. We currently have a couple of spaces available for the class on Wednesday 7th May

Support your local shops….
A very simple plea from me to say please support your local shops. With so many independant businesses, both online and actual shops, up and down the country closing their doors for the final time, it more important than ever to keep your local shops open. Here in Storrington we are so lucky to have some amazing shops selling a diverse range of goodies. However, if you don’t use them, they too will be closing their doors for the last time.
Yes, sometimes you can get a cheaper deal online, but what you can’t get online is customer service. Whether that is someone helping you choose the perfect aesthetic for your newly decorated home (see Lesley in Green interiors), choosing beautiful flowers as a gift (Emma in Flowerwise) or, of course, buying a sewing machine from your favourite sewing shop! The owners of all small businesses work hard and it is a little dispiriting when a customer comes in to declare that they have bought an item cheaper online but then wants your help to use it!!
Upcoming workshops
Alongside a couple of ever popular favourites such as the zips masterclass and overlocker we have a couple of new ones too.
Something we are asked about is making trousers so we will start with the Nora trousers from Sewgirl- They have an elasticated waist , side and back pockets and optional leg pockets too. These will look great in one of our linens. Lucy is making the sample in a green linen mix which will hang beautifully. The workshop is on Tuesday 1st July – see the website for more details.

Lots more classes are on the website so hop over to the the adult workshop pages and take a look. We have spaces at the moment on the Cami top on 15th May and the Jayne Pinafore dress on 12th May. For the hand stitchers amongst you, Slow Stitch Saturday on 10th May and Penny Rug Coaster on Tuesday 20th May both have spaces.
Happy sewing and we look forward to seeing you in the shop soon.
xx
