It’s time to dig out the socks and boots!

Hello hello helloooooo

How are you all?? I have finally relinquished my sandals and my feet are all cosy in socks and shoes now – not least because it was pouring down with rain when I came to work today. I hope you were able to enjoy the wonderfully warm September we had, the chilly mornings and warm days were just the best in my opinion!

This months header picture is from the top of the downs last Sunday morning. My daughter and I had a lovely hike along the top and saw these most inquisitive cows with their calves .

What are you all sewing at the moment? I am about to start a quilt which is a gift for a newlywed couple. I have some bits from their woodland wedding that I will be incorporating into the quilt so it should be a fun one to make. I’ll share a pic once it is done. After that I am going to embark on some trousers using the pattern I used for the pair I made last winter and love wearing. I just need to decide on some fabric…….

Exhibitions

Were you able to get along to the Curious Threads exhibition at Sullington Manor last month? I squeezed in a visit on their last day and really enjoyed seeing the creativity and skill on display.

This weekend is our annual trip to the Knit & Stitch show at Alexander palace – I will share photos from the textile exhibition on social media . There are always some amazingly talented exhibits to view. Last year I came home from the show with a new sewing machine – this years purchases will not be quite so extravagant!

Next weekend is Horsham Artists annual Contemporary Art Fair featuring 45 artists, creators and makers showing and selling their high quality affordable work from a central Horsham location over one special weekend. They are a unique, diverse and highly inclusive group of both emerging and professional artists working in a wide range of genres including painting, glass work, ceramics, textiles, jewellery, up-cycling, sculpture and more.

You can find our hand stitch tutor Greta on stand number 40.

A lick of paint…

If you have been passing the shop over the past week you may have seen Mr Stitch (my long suffering husband!) with a paintbrush in hand. The front of the shop has been getting a coat of paint along with the windowsills. The work should be finished soon so many apologies if you have had to skirt round him on the narrow pavement.

Fabric deliveries

We have had quite a few deliveries over the past few weeks. Lots of needlecords, jersey, viscose twill, super cosy sweatshirting and plenty more. Do pop in and take a look ready for your next make.

Do you have any budding dancers in your family who would love the gorgeous ballet print quilting cotton that arrived? With it being suitable for both dressmaking and crafting, there are so many things you could make.

Christmas – no apologies for mentioning it!!

There are about 11 sewing weeks left until Christmas. Less if you are planning on posting any gifts especially if they are going overseas!! We currently have a good range of festive fabrics although some are proving to be quite popular . We also have a very delightful festive jersey and brushed cotton if you want to make some pjs for the family.

For advent calendars it is about 7 weeks to get them completed. With that in mind, we have a few advent calendar workshops coming up so you can get them made in time. Why come to a workshop to do one?? For the simple reason that we cut out and press all 24 of those fiddly little pockets for you and you get to do the fun bit of sewing along with some good company with tea and biscuits on tap.

The advent calendar dates with availability are.. Tuesday 13th October and Sat 31st October. The November date is fully booked.

For all the latest workshops, take a look at the workshop pages.

Happy sewing
